Description
In accordance with the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA), the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology (Penn Museum) has completed an inventory of human remains and determined a cultural affiliation between the remains and Indian Tribes or Native Hawaiian organizations. The inventory includes human remains representing at least three individuals recovered from a Mohawk cemetery near Manheim in Herkimer County, New York. The Penn Museum has identified the remains as Mohawk and connected them to the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe. Repatriation of the human remains may occur on or after August 3, 2026.
