Description

The Joslyn Art Museum (JAM) intends to repatriate certain cultural items classified as sacred objects or objects of cultural patrimony. These items have a cultural affiliation with Native Hawaiian organizations, specifically Protect Keopuka Ohana. The repatriation is conducted under the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) and involves two cultural items collected by Dr. August Frederick Jonas and donated to the museum in 1951. Repatriation may occur on or after August 3, 2026, and requests for repatriation must be submitted in writing to the museum's authorized representative.
