The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is issuing a notice of intent to temporarily place four synthetic opioids—5,6-dichloro brorphine, 5,6-dichloro desmethylchlorphine, N-propionitrile chlorphine, and spirochlorphine—into Schedule I of the Controlled Substances Act. These substances have been identified in drug seizures and toxicology reports and pose an imminent hazard to public safety due to their high potential for abuse and lack of accepted medical use in treatment in the United States. The temporary scheduling order will impose regulatory controls and sanctions applicable to Schedule I substances. The notice is effective July 1, 2026, with the temporary scheduling order to be published on or after July 31, 2026.
