This notice concerns the intended disposition of Native American human remains and funerary objects at Joshua Tree National Park: - Government Buyer: - U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service - Joshua Tree National Park, Twentynine Palms, California - Subject of Notice: - Disposition of human remains representing at least two Native American individuals - 104 associated funerary objects, including: - Pottery sherds - Manos - Metate fragment - Non-human bone fragments - Lithics - Projectile point - Collections recovered from archaeological sites CARIV4841 and CARIV3888 in Riverside County, CA - Collections originally recovered by University of Nevada, Las Vegas - Disposition priority given to: - Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians - Cahuilla Band of Indians - Morongo Band of Mission Indians - Notice issued in accordance with the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) - No hazardous substances used in treatment of items - Outlines process for Indian Tribes or lineal descendants to submit claims - No procurement of goods or services is being solicited or awarded

Description

The U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service, Joshua Tree National Park intends to carry out the disposition of human remains and associated funerary objects removed from Federal lands to Indian Tribes with priority for disposition. The notice is issued in accordance with the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA). Disposition may occur on or after August 3, 2026, and if no claim is received by July 2, 2027, the remains and objects will become unclaimed.
