Description
This final rule implements regulations to incorporate revised Atlantic cod stock units into the Northeast Multispecies Fishery Management Plan (FMP) and sets status determination criteria, specifications, and management measures for four new cod stocks. It also establishes recreational cod measures to prevent overfishing, ensure rebuilding, and achieve optimum yield in the Northeast multispecies fisheries. The rule supports both commercial and recreational components of the groundfish fishery, which has significant economic value. The action was adopted by the New England Fishery Management Council and approved by NMFS to comply with the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act.
