Sound Transit is seeking a contractor to design, build, install, and commission a new in-floor (pit-mounted) wheel truing machine for its light rail vehicles at the Operations and Maintenance Facility Central in Seattle, WA. - Government Buyer: - Central Puget Sound Regional Transit Authority (Sound Transit) - Operations and Maintenance Facility Central, Seattle, WA - OEMs and Vendors: - Incumbent machine is Hegenscheidt U2000 (Hegenscheidt-MFD GmbH & Co. KG) - No specific OEMs for the new machine are named; solution must be compatible with Kinkisharyo and Siemens LRV trucks - Products/Services Requested: - One complete in-floor (pit-mounted) wheel truing machine/system - Includes fixtures, jigs, CNC/computer controls, hydraulic hold-downs, chip and fume extraction, electronic diameter measurement, and data acquisition - Tooling and attachments for Kinkisharyo and Siemens LRV trucks - 200 indexable carbide inserts - Must fit existing pit, align with current rails, and use existing 480vac/120vac, 150 Amp power - Capable of truing Bochum 84 and Bochum 2000 LRV wheel designs - Must allow truing without removing wheels from trucks (motorized and non-motorized) - Output: at least four axles per 8-hour shift - Safety features, OSHA and local code compliance - Electronic measurement and reporting - Removal of existing Hegenscheidt U2000 in-floor wheel lathe, chip extraction, and auger system (to be retained by Sound Transit) - Installation, pre-assembly, on-site assembly, and alignment - Testing and commissioning (in-plant and on-site) - Training for operators and maintenance staff (minimum 40 and 20 hours, respectively) - Supply of recommended spare parts and special tools - Full-time integration supervisor during assembly and testing - Shipping of new machine and components - Unique/Notable Requirements: - Machine must fit within existing infrastructure and use current power supply - Must accommodate both Kinkisharyo and Siemens LRV trucks - Strict machining accuracy, output, and safety requirements - Compliance with DBE (2%) and Small Business (4%) participation goals - Contractor responsible for removal and careful handling of existing equipment - Machine designed for a 15-year life expectancy with ongoing support and parts availability

Sound Transit is requesting proposals from firms to design, build, set-up, and commission an in-floor wheel truing machine for light rail vehicles. The machine will be installed at the Sound Transit Operations and Maintenance Facility Central in Seattle, WA.
