MTA LIRR Seeks Input on Replacement/Upgrade of Telephonics Railcar Communication System

The MTA - Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) is seeking industry input on options to replace or upgrade its RS-485-based passenger communication system for diesel locomotives and coaches. - Government Buyer: - MTA - Long Island Rail Road (LIRR), based in Hollis, Queens, NY - OEMs and Vendors: - Telephonics (current system OEM) - Products/Services Requested: - Replacement or upgrade solutions for the existing RS-485-based passenger communication system - Focus on DE/DM-30 AC and C-3 Locomotives - Industry feedback on feasibility, integration, installation, and interoperability - Unique/Notable Requirements: - Solutions should minimize new in-car cable routing - Must maintain interoperability across the entire fleet - Respondents should identify assumptions, risks, and information needed for engineering and cost estimates - Only firms with demonstrated railcar communication design and retrofit experience are sought - This is a Request for Expressions of Interest (RFEI) for information gathering only; no purchase or award will be made based on responses - Telephonics is the only OEM specifically mentioned in the notice

MTA Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) is seeking experienced firms capable of providing services or products related to replacing or upgrading the existing RS-485-based passenger communication system on LIRR's diesel locomotives and diesel-hauled coaches. The goal is to gather industry feedback on feasibility, integration impacts, and cost/schedule considerations. Proposals will be evaluated based on feasibility, ease of installation, and minimizing new in-car cable routing, with an emphasis on maintaining interoperability across the fleet. LIRR does not intend to award a purchase based on this RFEI and responses are for information only.
