Description

Fort Lewis College intends to repatriate 65 cultural items that are sacred objects or objects of cultural patrimony affiliated with Indian Tribes or Native Hawaiian organizations. These items include beadwork, basketry, a rattle, bows, and a medicine kit, primarily associated with the Southern Ute Indian Tribe of the Southern Ute Reservation, Colorado. The items were acquired between the 1960s and early 2000s and are needed by traditional Native American religious leaders for present-day religious practices. Repatriation may occur on or after July 22, 2026. Requests for repatriation must be submitted in writing to the authorized representative at Fort Lewis College.
