This notice concerns the intended repatriation of sacred cultural items by Fort Lewis College, Durango, CO, under the oversight of the National Park Service. - Government Buyer: - National Park Service, Department of the Interior - Fort Lewis College, Center of Southwest Studies - Items to be repatriated: - 65 cultural items, including beadwork, basketry, a rattle, bows, and a medicine kit - Items classified as sacred objects or objects of cultural patrimony - Affiliated primarily with the Southern Ute Indian Tribe of the Southern Ute Reservation, Colorado - Acquisition details: - Items acquired between the 1960s and early 2000s from regional collectors - Unique requirements: - Repatriation conducted in accordance with the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) - Requests for repatriation can be submitted by eligible Indian Tribes, Native Hawaiian organizations, or lineal descendants - No procurement of goods or services is being solicited in this notice

Description

Fort Lewis College intends to repatriate 65 cultural items that are sacred objects or objects of cultural patrimony affiliated with Indian Tribes or Native Hawaiian organizations. These items include beadwork, basketry, a rattle, bows, and a medicine kit, primarily associated with the Southern Ute Indian Tribe of the Southern Ute Reservation, Colorado. The items were acquired between the 1960s and early 2000s and are needed by traditional Native American religious leaders for present-day religious practices. Repatriation may occur on or after July 22, 2026. Requests for repatriation must be submitted in writing to the authorized representative at Fort Lewis College.
