Description

The Murray State University Archaeology Laboratory has completed an inventory of human remains in accordance with the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA). The inventory identified at least five individuals of Native American ancestry with cultural affiliation to the Cherokee Nation, Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, and The Osage Nation. The remains were removed from the Savage Cave site in Logan County, KY, and transferred to the laboratory in the early 1980s. Repatriation of the human remains may occur on or after July 22, 2026, and requests for repatriation must be sent to the authorized representative at Murray State University.
