Description
In accordance with the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA), the Murray State University Archaeology Laboratory has completed an inventory of human remains and determined a cultural affiliation between the remains and Indian Tribes or Native Hawaiian organizations. The human remains represent at least one individual of Native American ancestry and were looted from an unnamed site in Stewart County, TN, in the 1970s. The remains were donated to the laboratory in 2003, and repatriation may occur on or after July 22, 2026. The affiliated tribes include the Cherokee Nation, Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, The Chickasaw Nation, and The Muscogee (Creek) Nation.
