Description
The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) announces that the State of North Carolina is transferring a portion of its 2026 commercial summer flounder quota to the Commonwealth of Virginia. This quota transfer is necessary to comply with the Summer Flounder, Scup, and Black Sea Bass Fishery Management Plan (FMP) provisions. The transfer involves 496 pounds of summer flounder and is a result of a mutual agreement between the states to repay landings made by an out-of-state permitted vessel under a safe harbor agreement. The revised 2026 commercial quotas are 2,919,725 pounds for North Carolina and 2,421,008 pounds for Virginia. This temporary rule is effective from June 17, 2026, through December 31, 2026.
