Description

The National Park Service's African American Civil Rights Grant Program (AACR) aims to document and preserve sites and stories related to the African American struggle for equal rights from the transatlantic slave trade onward. The program funds history and preservation projects guided by the NPS report, Civil Rights in America, A Framework for Identifying Significant Sites. AACR grants, funded by the Historic Preservation Fund and administered by the NPS, support a broad range of preservation projects including architectural services, historic structure reports, preservation plans, and physical preservation of structures. Eligible properties must be listed or eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places. Grants are awarded competitively and do not require non-Federal matching funds. Separate funding announcements exist for physical preservation projects (P25AS00495) and history/research/documentation projects (P25AS00496).
