Description
The Administration for Community Living plans to fund one 3-year cooperative agreement to develop sustainable peer support models for individuals who use or can benefit from Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) across the lifespan. The project must include individuals that use AAC, nonprofit community-based service-provider organizations, self-advocacy organizations, youth and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD), families, and others in their support system. It aims to address the needs of approximately five million people in the US with speech disabilities, including those with I/DD, who use or could benefit from AAC. The goal is to create a community where AAC users can share experiences, increase knowledge, and promote independence and inclusion.
