This EPA final rule affects pesticide manufacturers and users regarding sodium nitrate use: - Government buyer: Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) - OEM/vendor mentioned: AgroFresh Inc. (petitioner for the regulatory change) - No procurement of products or services is requested; this is a regulatory action - Rule establishes an exemption from tolerance requirements for sodium nitrate (CAS Reg. No. 7631-99-4) when used as an inert ingredient (dilutant/oxidizer) in pesticide formulations - Applies only to sodium nitrate used in a fumigant canister that is remotely detonated and released inside a sealed warehouse for post-harvest treatment of raw agricultural commodities - The rule also corrects a typographical error in the chemical identification of d-Alpha tocopherol - No products, part numbers, or quantities are specified; this is not a solicitation or award

Description

This regulation establishes an exemption from the requirement of a tolerance for residues of sodium nitrate when used as an inert ingredient in pesticide formulations applied to raw agricultural commodities post-harvest in sealed warehouses. The exemption applies only when sodium nitrate is used in a fumigant canister that is remotely detonated and released inside a sealed warehouse. The rule responds to a petition by AgroFresh Inc. and eliminates the need to establish a maximum permissible level for sodium nitrate residues under these conditions. It also corrects a typographical error in the chemical identification of d-Alpha tocopherol.
