Description

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) invites public comments on its intention to request approval from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to reinstate with change a previously approved information collection. This collection concerns petitions for exemption from the Vehicle Theft Prevention Standard under 49 CFR part 543. The reinstatement decreases the estimated annual burden hours from 2,094 to 1,828 due to a decrease in the estimated number of exemptions per year. The information collected will be used to determine if an anti-theft device installed in a vehicle line is likely to be as effective in reducing and deterring motor vehicle theft as compliance with parts-marking requirements.
