Description
The Kern County Museum intends to repatriate 20 cultural items classified as objects of cultural patrimony that have cultural affiliation with Indian Tribes or Native Hawaiian organizations. These items include baskets attributed to several tribes such as Tubatulabal, Kawaiisu, Tejon, Paiute, and Lower Kern Indian. The repatriation is conducted under the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) and may occur on or after July 13, 2026. Requests for repatriation can be submitted by lineal descendants or culturally affiliated tribes or organizations.
