Description

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is correcting a previous final action that erroneously granted an attainment date extension for the 2006 24-hour PM2.5 National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) in the San Joaquin Valley. The EPA is now denying California's extension request and finalizes its determination that the San Joaquin Valley failed to attain the standards by the original December 31, 2019 attainment date, based on air quality data from 2017-2019. Consequently, California must submit a revision to its State Implementation Plan (SIP) to provide for expeditious attainment and a 5% annual reduction in emissions. The rule is effective July 13, 2026.
