Free Atlantic Shark Identification Workshops and Safe Handling, Release, and Identification Workshops will be held in July, August, and September of 2026. These workshops are mandatory for certain fishermen and shark dealers to meet regulatory requirements and maintain valid permits. The Atlantic Shark Identification Workshop is required for all federally permitted Atlantic shark dealers, while the Safe Handling, Release, and Identification Workshop is required for vessel owners and operators using bottom longline, pelagic longline, or gillnet gear with shark or swordfish limited access permits. Additional free workshops and online recertification options will be available in 2026.
