The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) announces its decision to renew exemptions for 28 individuals from the hearing requirement in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSRs) for interstate commercial motor vehicle (CMV) drivers. These exemptions allow hard of hearing and deaf individuals to continue operating CMVs in interstate commerce. The exemptions are renewed for a period of 2 years, subject to specific terms and conditions including reporting crashes and citations, and prohibiting operation of motorcoaches or buses with passengers. Comments on the exemptions must be received by July 9, 2026.
