Railcar Spanners, 80 Each, Aluminum, Required in support of the Army Power Projection Platform , Campbell Rail Operations Facility , Fort Campbell, KY Rail Spanner Specifications 1.QTY 80 each Rail Spanners a. Rail Spanners shall be capable of spanning between railcars, allowing the loading of self-propelled vehicles, towed trailers, and other rolling stock onto railcars. b. Rail Spanners shall be compatible with all military and commercial railcars. c. Axle Weight Capacity, A pair of Rail Spanners, left and right runways, shall be rated at 40,000 lbs. maximum single axle. Each individual Rail Spanner shall be rated at 20,000 lbs. maximum single/dually wheel, 24inch wide, no thicker than 4-inch tall. d. Rated Capacity: Shall be no more than 50% of failure strength at least a 2-to-1 safety factor. Failure strength is determined by the amount of weight that causes permanent deformation of the aluminum. An 80,000lb axle can be placed on a pair of Rail Spanners before any permanent deformation of the aluminum.e. Dimensional Data: 72 inches long x 24 inches wide f. Stub Toe: Each Rail Spanner will have a 2-inch-high Stub Toe or Bullnoseg. Kicker Plate Each Rail Spanner shall have the Improved Kicker Plate that utilizes aluminum tubes and 3inch tapered gussets, instead of angled aluminum. Kicker Plates made of angled aluminum will break and collapse over time, decreasing the lifespan. h. Each Rail Spanner shall have a Specifications Plate etched with the following 1 Manufacturer’s Part Number2 Vendor’s contact info email address and phone number3 Rated Capacity 4 Safety Statement: Must be supported at least 12in each end i.
