Description
California State University, Chico has completed an inventory of human remains in accordance with the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA). The inventory identified at least 22 individuals of Native American ancestry with a cultural affiliation to the Mechoopda Indian Tribe of Chico Rancheria and the Mooretown Rancheria of Maidu Indians of California. The notice details the process for repatriation requests, which may occur on or after July 6, 2026. Requests for repatriation must be sent to the authorized representative at Chico State.
