Description

In accordance with the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA), the University of California, Berkeley intends to repatriate certain cultural items that meet the definition of objects of cultural patrimony and that have a cultural affiliation with the Indian Tribes or Native Hawaiian organizations. A total of 24 cultural items including beans, corn and corn cobs, peas, and seeds collected between 1940 to 1941 are involved. These items have ongoing historical, traditional, or cultural importance central to the Native American group, specifically the Pueblo of Isleta, New Mexico. Repatriation may occur on or after July 6, 2026, and requests for repatriation must be sent to the authorized representative at the University of California, Berkeley.
