Description
The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection intends to repatriate 63 cultural items classified as sacred objects. These items include biface fragments, projectile points, debitage, scrapers, pestles, groundstone, and metates collected during archaeological surveys in the 1980s and 1990s from nine sites in Humboldt, Mendocino, and Trinity Counties, California. The repatriation is conducted under the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) and is connected to the Bear River Band of the Rohnerville Rancheria, California. Repatriation may occur on or after July 6, 2026, and requests for repatriation must be sent to the authorized representative at CAL FIRE in Sacramento, CA.
