Description
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is issuing a final rule to remove obsolete requirements from Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 214, "Side Impact Protection." The final rule also amends FMVSS No. 305a, "Electric-Powered Vehicles: Electric Powertrain Integrity," and FMVSS No. 307, "Fuel System Integrity of Hydrogen Vehicles," to delete references to sections of FMVSS No. 214 removed by this rule. The amendments are intended to keep regulations current by deleting obsolete regulatory text without changing existing requirements. The effective date of the rule is July 6, 2026.
