Description

The City of Chignik, Alaska, has filed an application to surrender its license for the Chignik Project No. 620, located on Indian Creek in the City of Chignik, Lake and Peninsula Borough, Alaska. The project has not generated power since approximately 2012. The City plans to develop a replacement water supply line and hydroelectric facility under state jurisdiction, supported by funding from the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium and the Lake and Peninsula Borough. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) staff intends to prepare an environmental assessment (EA) under the National Environmental Policy Act for the project, with the EA expected to be issued by August 25, 2026, followed by a 30-day comment period.
