Description

The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) has received three Hatchery and Genetics Management Plans (HGMPs) for hatchery programs rearing and releasing chum salmon in the Skagit River watershed. These programs are operated by the Sauk-Suiattle Indian Tribe, Swinomish Indian Tribal Community, Upper Skagit Indian Tribe, and Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife as co-managers. The notice provides an opportunity for public comment on a Proposed Evaluation and Pending Determination (PEPD) document regarding the implementation of the proposed hatchery programs and associated findings. The hatchery programs aim to support Tribal treaty fishing rights and contribute to salmon harvests while including research and monitoring activities on Puget Sound Chinook salmon and steelhead. Comments must be received by July 2, 2026.
