Description
The Water Quality Improvement Project (WQIP) program is a competitive, reimbursement grant program that funds projects aimed at directly improving water quality or habitat, promoting flood risk reduction, restoration, and enhanced flood and climate resiliency, or protecting a drinking water source. Eligible project types include wastewater treatment improvement, nonagricultural nonpoint source abatement and control, vacuum trucks in MS4 areas, land acquisition for source water protection, salt storage, dam safety repair/rehabilitation and removal, aquatic connectivity restoration, marine district habitat restoration, fish and wildlife habitat restoration and enhancement, and landfill leachate treatment. The program is open to municipalities, soil and water conservation districts, and certain not-for-profit corporations depending on the project type. Applicants must provide a 25% match of the award amount, and the program has specific goals for service-disabled veteran-owned businesses and minority/women business enterprises.
