Description

The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) is prohibiting directed fishing for Pacific cod by vessels using jig gear in the Central Regulatory Area of the Gulf of Alaska (GOA). This temporary rule is necessary to prevent exceeding the A season allowance of the 2026 total allowable catch (TAC) of Pacific cod allocated to vessels using jig gear in this area. The closure is effective from 1200 hours Alaska local time on May 27, 2026, through 1200 hours on June 10, 2026. This action is issued under the authority of the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act to manage the groundfish fishery in the GOA.
