The National Institutes of Health (NIH), through the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, is seeking to acquire a Whole Body Composition Analyzer for live mice research. - Government Buyer: - National Institutes of Health (NIH) - National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases - Products/Services Requested: - Whole Body Composition Analyzer for live mice - Measures fat mass, lean mass, and body water - Rapid scan time (~1–2 minutes per mouse preferred; up to ~12 minutes acceptable) - Non-invasive and does not require anesthesia - High precision and reproducibility - Minimal operator variability - Validated in peer-reviewed metabolic research - Supports longitudinal studies in conscious animals - Purpose and Use: - Replacement of an outdated, non-functional analyzer - Instrument will be shared across multiple laboratories - Supports research in obesity, diabetes, and related metabolic disorders - Unique/Notable Requirements: - Must enable non-invasive, anesthesia-free, rapid measurements in live mice - Must be validated for use in metabolic research and ensure minimal operator variability - No specific OEMs, brands, or part numbers are mentioned in the solicitation.

Description

The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases requires an Whole Body Composition Analyzer to measure fat mass, lean mass, and body water in live mice. This system will replace an existing analyzer that is over 17 years old and no longer operational.

The instrument provides rapid, non-invasive measurements in conscious animals without anesthesia, ensuring accurate and reproducible data. It will be shared across multiple laboratories and is required to support ongoing research in obesity, diabetes, and related metabolic disorders.

The following product features/characteristics are required for this requirement: • Rapid scan time (~1–2 minutes per mouse) • No anesthesia requirement • High precision and reproducibility for fat and lean mass • Non-invasive, longitudinal measurement capability • Minimal operator variability • Validated performance in peer-reviewed metabolic research These features are essential for maintaining sympathetic tone and avoiding anesthetic-induced alterations in metabolic readouts, which is critical in acute drug response and metabolic studies.
