The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is updating its environmental review process for large housing projects: - HUD is removing the requirement for Environmental Assessments of projects with over 200 dwelling units or beds to be reviewed by Field or Program Environmental Clearance Officers (FECO/PECO) - This regulatory change aims to streamline environmental permitting and reduce processing times for large-scale projects - All other regulatory and statutory compliance requirements remain in effect - No products, services, OEMs, or vendors are involved, as this is a procedural rule change - The rule is open for public comment, inviting feedback from stakeholders - The only agency involved is HUD
Description
This interim final rule revises the Department of Housing and Urban Development's environmental review regulations by removing the requirement that Environmental Assessments for projects over 200 dwelling units or beds be sent to the Field Environmental Clearance Officer or Program Environmental Clearance Officer for review and comment. The change aims to improve efficiency in environmental permitting and streamline project processing times while meeting all other regulatory and statutory requirements. The rule also requests public comment on this regulatory change.
