This notice provides an update on the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission's (NRC) environmental review for a new nuclear facility in Texas: - Government Buyer: - U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) - Office of Nuclear Regulatory Research, Division of Risk Analysis, Probabilistic Risk Assessment Branch - OEMs and Vendors: - Xe-100 reactor technology (OEM) - Long Mott Energy, LLC (project applicant) - Products/Services Requested: - Four Xe-100 small modular, high-temperature reactors - Part number: Xe-100 - Uses solid tri-structural isotropic fuel and helium gas cooling - Notable Requirements: - NRC is issuing an Environmental Assessment (EA) and Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for the construction permit - Exemptions granted from certain NRC environmental review requirements (no full Environmental Impact Statement required) - Project supports the Department of Energy's Advanced Reactor Demonstration Program - Construction permit authorizes building the reactors, but a separate operating license will be required before operation - Place of Performance: - Long Mott Generating Station, Seadrift, Calhoun County, Texas - Adjacent to Seadrift Operations industrial facility

Description

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) is issuing an environmental assessment (EA) and finding of no significant impact (FONSI) regarding the NRC's consideration of issuance of a construction permit (CP) to Long Mott Energy, LLC (LME) for the proposed Long Mott Generating Station (LMGS) located in Calhoun County, Texas. If approved, the CP would authorize the construction of four Xe-100 small modular, high-temperature reactors that use solid tri-structural isotropic fuel and a helium gas cooling system. The NRC is also issuing exemptions from certain NRC requirements that normally require an environmental impact statement (EIS) for such permits. The EA and FONSI satisfy the NRC's obligations under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and NRC regulations related to the proposed action.
