DoD Information Collection for Impact Aid and Status of Forces Survey

The Department of Defense (DoD), through the Office of the Secretary and the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness (OUSD(P&R)), is seeking public comment on two proposed annual information collections: - Application for DoD Impact Aid for Children with Severe Disabilities - Targets eligible Local Education Agencies (LEAs) that educate military dependent students with severe disabilities - Utilizes SD Form 816 (OMB Control Number 07040425) - Submissions are made via the Impact Aid Portal - Approximately 100 LEAs participate annually - Eligibility criteria must be met for LEAs to apply - Status of Forces Survey of Active Component Members (SOFSA) - Annual survey of about 29,400 active-duty military members - Assesses financial well-being, retention, stress, tempo, and readiness - Results inform DoD policy and are reported to Congressional committees - Participation is voluntary and legally mandated for policy review - No OEMs, vendors, or product procurement are involved; this is strictly an information collection effort - Notable requirements include legal mandates for the SOFSA survey and specific eligibility for LEAs applying for Impact Aid

Description

The Department of Defense (DoD) has submitted a proposal for collection of information under the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995. This includes the Status of Forces Active Component Survey (SOFSA), an annual survey of active-duty members to evaluate policies and programs related to financial well-being, retention, stress, and readiness. The survey data will be used to inform policy updates and reports to Congressional Armed Services Committees. Public comments on this information collection are invited until June 22, 2026.
