Description

The Vermont Studio Center (VSC) is seeking final design engineering services for a floodplain restoration project following substantial flood damage in July 2023. The project involves restoring natural floodplain conditions and enhancing the stream buffer along the Gihon River by removing existing fill and riprap and reducing the riverbank gradient to slow river velocity and increase flood storage capacity. The 0.4-acre restoration site is adjacent to a native pollinator garden and educational pathway near the Wolf Kahn Building, with public river access maintained. A 30% design phase and Phase I Archaeological Resources Assessment have been completed, and the project aims to provide flood resiliency benefits and educational opportunities about floodplain restoration and ecological benefits.
