Description
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) proposes to revise the Audible Crawl Rule to improve accessibility of emergency information during non-newscast programming. The revised rule would allow textual crawls to serve as an alternative to non-textual visual emergency information, provided that the information is also conveyed aurally. This proposal aims to enhance accessibility for individuals with visual impairments and is part of ongoing efforts to implement the Twenty-First Century Communications and Video Accessibility Act of 2010. The rule change would specify that the accessibility requirement is met if a textual crawl provides emergency information duplicative of or equivalent to non-textual visual emergency information, so long as the textual crawl is also conveyed aurally. Comments on the proposal are due by June 15, 2026, with reply comments due by June 29, 2026.
