Description
The State of Alaska has applied to the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for final authorization of its hazardous waste program under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA). The EPA has tentatively determined that Alaska's hazardous waste program meets all requirements for final authorization. If finalized, Alaska's program will operate in lieu of the Federal hazardous waste program, with the EPA retaining jurisdiction in Indian country and areas of exclusive Federal jurisdiction in Alaska. The application is open for public review and comment until July 2, 2026, and a public hearing is tentatively scheduled for June 25, 2026, if there is sufficient public interest.
