The National Biomedical Research Centers (NBRCs) provide scientific expertise, advanced equipment, infrastructure, and well-characterized research models to researchers nationwide. The program emphasizes the development of innovative human-based models and new technologies to reduce reliance on live research models, including plans to reduce, refine, and replace whole-animal use. NBRCs function as centers of innovation in fundamental science and translational hubs for developing and testing novel interventions for human patients. Clinical trials are allowed only as human-based New Approach Methodologies (NAMs). This funding opportunity is an open competition to increase innovation at research centers with existing nonhuman primate colonies and to leverage capabilities in basic and translational research.
