Description
The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has completed an inventory of 357 associated funerary objects from Sonoma County along Highway 1, housed at Sonoma State University. These objects include lithics, paleobotanicals, soil samples, faunal remains, shell, ground stone, and post-contact historic artifacts. Caltrans has determined a cultural affiliation between these funerary objects and the Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria and the Kashia Band of Pomo Indians of the Stewarts Point Rancheria, California. Repatriation of these objects may occur on or after June 11, 2026, and requests must be sent to the authorized representative at Caltrans.
