USPS Seeks Industry Input for Government Mail Irradiation Services Using X-Ray and E-Beam Technologies

The United States Postal Service (USPS) is seeking industry input for Government Mail Irradiation Services to sanitize mail for federal agencies. - Government Buyer: - United States Postal Service (USPS) - Supplies Material Management - Purchasing and Supply Management, Flat & Mail Visibility Technology - Services Requested: - Irradiation treatment of government mail (letters, flats, parcels) using X-Ray (minimum 5MeV) and/or E-Beam (minimum 10MeV) technologies - Minimum irradiation dose: 53 kilograys per run, with dosimeter analysis and certification - Daily processing of approximately 1,100 lbs of mail in sealed containers (pallet-fed racks, totes, or overshippers) - Service includes inbound inspection, reporting, notifications, performance tracking, and maintenance - Quality Management System required, with monthly performance reviews and annual audits - Supplier must operate a primary irradiation facility near Washington, DC, with alternate facilities as backup - Unique/Notable Requirements: - Preference for all X-Ray processing with a pallet-fed conveying system - Same-day processing of deliveries - Support for testing and root cause analysis - Equipment must be maintained and evaluated semi-annually or annually - No specific OEMs or vendors are named in the solicitation - No product part numbers or quantities for equipment are specified - Place of performance is the USPS Government Mail Facility in Washington, DC, with contracting offices in Philadelphia, PA and Merrifield, VA
