The City of Austin is seeking a qualified contractor to provide comprehensive vehicle destruction services and manage the sale of vehicle scrap for all City-owned vehicles, including emergency and large vehicles. - Government Buyer: - City of Austin, Fleet Mobility Services Department, Purchasing Office - Scope of Work: - Destruction of City-owned vehicles (light-duty, medium-duty, heavy-duty), including emergency vehicles (Fire, EMS, Police), refuse trucks, dump trucks, and other large vehicles - Engine and chassis destruction or complete crushing - Salvage and removal of all usable parts - Safe handling and disposal of hazardous materials (fluids, batteries, hydraulic fluids, CNG/LPG/EV components) - Removal and recycling of high-voltage battery packs from electric vehicles - Pickup and transportation of vehicles for destruction or salvage - Trash removal from vehicles prior to destruction - Product/Service Quantities: - Estimated annual destruction: 2 light-duty, 3 medium-duty, 6 heavy-duty vehicles - Estimated annual scrap purchase: 30,000 lbs (light-duty), 200,000 lbs (medium-duty), 500,000 lbs (heavy-duty) - Hazardous materials disposal: 80 gallons (liquids), 50 gallons (hydraulic fluid), 2 batteries - Trash removal: 6,000 lbs - Unique/Notable Requirements: - Contractor must operate a full-time salvage facility within 90 miles of the Texas State Capitol - Minimum three years of relevant experience required - Must maintain all required environmental permits and licenses - Detailed documentation and reporting of destruction activities - Secure storage and timely pickup/completion of services - Compliance with all safety and environmental regulations - Revenue-generating contract: contractor pays City for scrap, City pays for destruction/disposal services - OEMs and Vendors: - No specific OEMs or vendors are named in the solicitation - Locations: - Primary place of performance: City of Austin, Texas; contractor's salvage facility must be within 90 miles of the Texas State Capitol - City of Austin Fleet Mobility Services, 1190 Hargrave St, Austin, TX 78702

Description

The City of Austin seeks to establish a contract with a qualified contractor to provide vehicle destruction services and sale of vehicle scrap for City vehicles on an as-needed basis. This includes all City-owned vehicles such as emergency units including Fire, EMS, and Police vehicles, as well as refuse and dump trucks and other large vehicles. The contract involves the contractor collecting and purchasing scrap metal from decommissioned City vehicles, paying the City for all scrap materials collected based on a fixed rate, while the City separately pays the contractor for vehicle destruction and disposal services. The contract term is initially twelve months with the possibility of two additional 12-month extensions at the City's option.
