The Alaska Department of Natural Resources, Division of Mining, Land and Water, Southeast Regional Land Office has received an application from Cordova Telecom Cooperative, Inc. for a public utility easement to place a fiber optic submarine cable on State-owned tide and submerged lands from Juneau to Gustavus, Hoonah, Pelican, Yakutat, and Cordova. The easement requested is 30 feet wide, covering approximately 1,920 acres or 2,789,000 feet in length, with a proposed 30-year term starting upon signing. This project aims to provide high-speed broadband to rural and underserved communities in Southeast Alaska. The public is invited to comment on the proposal by June 8, 2026.
