The Department of the Navy is seeking innovative solutions for field deployable welding technologies to enable in-situ repair of thermoplastic composite components on naval aviation platforms. - Government Buyer: - Department of the Navy (DON) - Sub-agencies: Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR), Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA), Office of Naval Research (ONR) - Contracting Office: DON SBIR/STTR Program Management Office - Products/Services Requested: - Portable induction welding system for aerospace-grade thermoplastics (PAEK, PEEK, PPS, PEI reinforced with Carbon Fiber) - Must operate at up to 400°C - Lightweight, rugged, and safe for use near avionics - Closed-loop thermal control and electromechanical ruggedization - Achieve weld strength of at least 70% of parent material - Research and development services for field deployable welding technologies - Unique/Notable Requirements: - Solutions must be suitable for shipboard and aircraft intermediate maintenance detachments - Must transition to Navy fleet resource centers and commercial depots - Emphasis on prototype development, demonstration, and validation - Security clearances and CMMC Level 2 compliance may be required for some projects - OEMs and Vendors: - No specific OEMs or vendors are named; opportunity is open to small businesses and technology developers - Places of Performance and Delivery: - Naval aviation platforms - Shipboard and Aircraft Intermediate Maintenance Detachments - Fleet resource centers servicing MQ25 and next generation platforms including Maritime Strike - DDG 51 Class Ships - NAVAIR, NAVSEA, ONR facilities

Description

This solicitation seeks the development of welding technologies that can be deployed in the field for the in-situ repair of thermoplastic composite components used on naval aviation platforms. The project is part of the Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) program managed by the Office of Naval Research (ONR) under the Department of the Navy.
