The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Region 3, has determined that adequate facilities for the safe and sanitary removal and treatment of sewage from all vessels are reasonably available for waters within Virginia's Northern Neck peninsula. This supports the designation of a vessel sewage no-discharge zone for such waters. The determination follows an application submitted by Virginia on September 10, 2025, and allows Virginia to designate certain waters within Richmond, Lancaster, Northumberland, and Westmoreland Counties as a vessel sewage no-discharge zone in accordance with State law.
