Description

This temporary rule implements an accountability measure for the recreational harvest of red snapper by private anglers in federal waters off Louisiana for the 2026 fishing year. Due to recreational landings exceeding the annual catch limit (ACL) in 2025, the ACL for 2026 is reduced by the amount of the overage to protect the red snapper resource. The private angling component includes private vessels and non-federally permitted charter vessels and headboats. The rule is effective from May 6, 2026, through December 31, 2026.
