This project aims to provide a new access point to the Red Line northwest of the Charles River to facilitate more efficient delivery of equipment, labor, and materials into the tunnel. The existing Red Line subway tunnel northwest of the Charles River currently has limited access for equipment and maintenance, located near the Kendall/MIT station, about four miles from Alewife Station. The project involves constructing a tunnel access point from grade to the tunnel below, which is over 25 feet below ground near Alewife. The scope includes general building construction to improve operational access for Hi-Rail vehicles and maintenance activities.
