Description

The Coast Guard is proposing to establish a temporary safety zone for navigable waters within a 100-yard radius of the center span of the Mackinac Bridge. This safety zone is intended to protect personnel, vessels, and the marine environment during a marine event involving approximately 400 swimmers under the bridge on July 18, 2026, from 7 a.m. to noon. Unauthorized persons and vessels are prohibited from entering the safety zone unless specifically authorized by the Captain of the Port, Sector Northern Great Lakes. The rule aims to ensure safety during the event and minimize hazards associated with the swim.
