Sole Source Procurement of Proprietary Engraved Metal Plates for CTIP-III Machine

This notice announces a sole source procurement by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) for proprietary metal plates used in currency engraving: - The BEP intends to award a Firm Fixed Price contract to Koenig & Bauer (K&B) Banknote Solutions - The contract is for brass and stainless-steel plates compatible with the CTIP-III intaglio laser engraving machine - Only K&B Banknote Solutions manufactures plates that meet the proprietary requirements for the CTIP-III machine - The procurement is justified under FAR 6.302-1 due to the unique, proprietary nature of the plates - No competitive solicitation will be issued; interested parties must be registered and active in SAM - The place of performance is the Bureau of Engraving and Printing's Eastern Currency Facility in Washington, DC - The requirement is critical for ongoing engraving operations at the facility

NOTICE OF INTENT TO AWARD SOLE SOURCE

Computer-to-Itaglio Plate (CTIP)-III Engraved Metal Plates

The Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) Office of Chief Procurement Officer (OCPO) intends to award a sole source Firm Fixed Price (FFP) contract on behalf of the Office of Engraving. The contract will precure brass and stainless-steel plates compatible with the Office of Engraving’s CTIP-III intaglio laser engraving machine at the Eastern Currency Facility (ECF). The plates are proprietary and can only be acquired from Koenig & Bauer (K&B) Banknote Solutions.  Therefore, the Government intends to award a sole source contract to K&B in accordance with FAR Subpart 6.302-1(a)(2)(ii)(b).

This notice of intent is not a request for competitive offers/quotes/proposals. A determination not to compete this requirement is solely within the discretion of the Government. Information received will be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement.  Any cost associated with the preparation and submission of data or information, or any other costs incurred in responding to this notice is the sole responsibility of the respondent and will not be reimbursed by the Government.
