This notice from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) announces an administrative rulemaking action: - The DEA, under the Justice Department, is establishing a specific listing and DEA Controlled Substances Code Number for hexahydrocannabinol (HHC) as a Schedule I controlled substance - HHC was previously controlled under the broader drug code 7370 for tetrahydrocannabinols - The new rule assigns HHC its own DEA drug code for improved quota management for DEA-registered manufacturers - No products, services, vendors, or OEMs are involved - No procurement, quantities, or part numbers are specified - This is an administrative update and does not alter the legal status of HHC - No unique procurement requirements are present
Description
The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is establishing a specific listing and DEA Controlled Substances Code Number for hexahydrocannabinol (HHC) in schedule I of the Controlled Substances Act (CSA). Although HHC is currently controlled under drug code 7370 as a tetrahydrocannabinol, this rule amends the schedule I hallucinogenic substances list to separately include hexahydrocannabinol. The rule is effective May 4, 2026, and does not change the controlled status of HHC but allows for specific quota management.
