Description
The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) announces a transfer of a portion of the 2026 commercial summer flounder quota from the Commonwealth of Virginia to the State of New Jersey. This quota adjustment is necessary to comply with the Summer Flounder, Scup, and Black Sea Bass Fishery Management Plan (FMP) quota transfer provisions. The transfer involves 13,488 pounds of summer flounder and is made under mutual agreement between the states to address an unforeseen variation in the fishery. The revised 2026 commercial quotas are 2,420,512 pounds for Virginia and 2,109,868 pounds for New Jersey. The action is effective from May 1, 2026, through December 31, 2026.
