This notice announces the availability of the draft Supplemental Programmatic Environmental Assessment (SPEA) for fisheries research conducted and funded by the Southwest Fisheries Science Center (SWFSC). The draft SPEA evaluates potential changes in the direct and indirect effects of research previously analyzed in the 2015 and 2020 assessments, as well as new or modified research activities along the U.S. west coast and in the Scotia Sea area off Antarctica. It considers environmental impacts on physical environment, special resource areas, fish, marine mammals, birds, sea turtles, invertebrates, and social and economic environments. The public comment period is open until June 1, 2026.
