Description
The United States Department of the Naval Medical Research Command (NMRC) intends to award a sole source contract to, Thomas D. Morris, Inc., Reisterstown, MD 21136-3827. This notice is not a request for competitive proposals however If interested Government shall consider all responses.
NMRC's Undersea Medicine Department (UMD) is carrying out animal research, assessing the impact of carbon dioxide on simulated disabled submarine (DISSUB) survival and decompression sickness at 5 ATA air in a 70 kg swine model. The requested requirement is for research that focuses on enhancing the survival, escape, and rescue of crew members in a distressed submarine scenario. The specific request requires male Yorkshire swine (Sus scrofa) of similar body mass/weight, approximately 55-60 kg, free of disease and parasites, to be used in Undersea Medicine research. The animals are required to be delivered prior to the intended use date as each animal requires at least five days of acclimatization to the research facility, in accordance with veterinary medicine and animal care guidelines at WRAIR/NMRC.
